The month of December is here and it is cold brrrrrr! This was an exciting time, with a lot of preparations and fun things for the children from the kindergarten.
We kicked off the month with the ‘Special Me’ celebrations where the children dressed up as their favorite characters or just pretty princess dresses. It was a big joyous day with a red carpet, a stage where the children sang their favorite songs and showcased their costumes for all their friends and classmates.
The children also had a chance to practice their physical skills with the physical test that is hosted by the kindergarten to check children’s physical development. Different skills were tested like long jumping, throwing tennis balls as far as they could and running short distances, to just name a few.
With our IB Curriculum, children from different levels learned about various units of inquiry. The junior level students inquired about ‘how to organize ourselves’ where they looked at different modes of transportation. The junior level teachers created fun and exciting activities for the children to really express themselves and develop their sense of the relationship between vehicles and human beings.
The medium level students inquired about ‘Who we are’. This included my body and the function of their five senses. Learning about different body parts, with questions about ‘What can you do with your legs and feet? The children were really creative in their answers as to the different actions they can perform using their legs and feet. The kids also looked at their sense of smell and were taken outside to smell different objects around the school like plants, flowers, grass and soil.
The senior and connection level children learned about signs and symbols and how the world works respectively. This taught children how people in all walks of life use signs and symbols to communicate. All these aspects help children to develop concepts from the IB Learner profile to develop into global citizens of the world.
The kindergarten arranged for the parents of children to come and view how and what the children learn during English lessons as well as Chinese activities. We were so happy to share the children’s learning journey and experiences with them and believe that everyone had such an amazing time, getting to experience the knowledge and joy of the kindergarten children.
