On October 27, 2023, a teaching research activity among international teachers was held at the HIMS Kindergarten. The aim was to continuously improve teaching quality in kindergarten by means of peer class observation and exchanging feedback. Ms. Serene Chen, the School Director of International Programs, Mr. Raul Li, the Kindergarten Principal, Ms. Mandy Huang, the Kindergarten IB-PYP Coordinator, Ms. Shiloh Xu, the English Teaching Coordinator and Ms. June Yang, the International Exchange Supervisor of the General School, participated in the educational and research activity.

In the morning, an amazing workshop concerning PYP curriculum was conducted by Mr Lam Felix Si-Heng, the kindergarten international teachers’ team leader , which effectively helped all the teachers to understand the philosophy of IB curriculum and its implementation within Huamei kindergarten.

In the afternoon, our teachers provided three open classes from each age level, fully utilizing a wealth of resources and methods, such as nursery rhymes, interactive games, TPR activities and more. They gave each child an opportunity to participate and encouraged them to express themselves with greater confidence. In so doing, the children’s choices were made and voices were heard. Teachers also made sure that a relaxing and natural learning atmosphere be created. Therefore, all the children were fully engaged and participated in equal measure. 

Finally, all the teachers gathered to have a detailed and dynamic discussion about the classes observed. Positive feedback, as well as constructive suggestions were shared by each member.

Everyone feels contented with the whole day’s rewarding learning and sharing experience, and hopes for more PD events of this type in future.
