Children’s Day: A Day To Be Remembered
Shared :

It’s that time of year again, when we celebrate the younger generation and dedicate this day to them, their individuality, and celebrate who they are. Children’s Day was born in 1949 in Paris, by the “Democratic Federation of Women”. China was the first country to embrace this celebration and it’s been congratulating its upcoming adults ever since.

Today was a special day for each child and it was a meaningful and unforgettable one for each of us at school. We held the festivities outside amongst the campus grounds and the sun had its hat on for the day. Each group was given a topic and from this, the event was born. Grades one and two had the chance to explore the topic ‘myself, and ‘toys’ was the given topic, for grades three to four, whereas grades five and grade six looked at traveling. Mathematical skills, public speaking, negotiating, and the powers of persuasion were in full force and each student shone in their own right.

Jessica Bodenstein, our grade two teacher talked about the special day and said “Our PBL driving question was I am special because… Throughout different activities, we learned that our differences make us special.” That is completely right, as Jessica explains. “This day is about celebrating each child and what makes them unique. She continues “On Children’s Day, we displayed our completed work and presented our work related to the driving question. To summarize Children’s Day, tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I will learn and that was for sure what happened on this special day.”

It was a chance to raise money for children who were not as fortunate and provide them with the funds to make a difference in their lives. The day was filled with such joy from the selling of toys, and books, to the cracking of pinatas, and the purchasing of artwork and sculptures. You name it and our students sold it! Students also used the day to entertain our parents with their own unique performances. It was great to see Huamei’s parents get involved, some even set up stalls to sell toys and arranged a host of games to elevate our funds even more.

Huamei is committed to the individual development of every student and helping those who cannot enjoy the same privileges as our children here on campus, to ensure all children get the chance to experience a first-rate education.

So, I hear you asking what’s next for Huamei? Will the Children’s Day of 2024 exceed this year’s success? It’s without a doubt whatever is in store will rival the victory of this year. Stay tuned until our next celebration.
