Shared :

The cool breeze and the heady fragrance of laurel blossoms wafted through the fresh air. On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, although teachers and students of the Huamei ISD department are living in different parts of the world now, it cannot stop the ISD family from wanting to reunite.

In order to let students learn more about the cultural connotation of the traditional Chinese festivals, we held an online theme event called “Blooming Flower and Full Moon” to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival.

As an important traditional festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival represents reunion and auspiciousness in China. During the event, the senior students introduced the origin, stories, customs, and food of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Let’s follow in their footsteps and start the online learning journey of Mid-Autumn Festival culture!

 Origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival

There are many different historical stories about the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Some say the roots may be related to the sacrificial activities of ancient emperors, others say it's about agricultural production in ancient China. Let's explore more with Pingping!

Customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival

Chinese families hold many traditional celebrations during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The main celebrations include eating mooncakes, having dinner with family, watching the moon, and lighting lanterns. In addition to China, some of China’s neighbors also celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Our Thai student – Jew, will introduce us to some traditional ways to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival in Thailand.

Legends of the Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid- Autumn Festival may have been a harvest festival at the earliest. The festival was later given a mythological flavor with legends of Chang’e, a Chinese goodness of the moon. In addition to Chang’e, there are three more stories about the Mid-Autumn Festival shared by our student, Chinjung.

Delicacies of the Mid-Autumn Festival

Food is the first necessity of the people. Chinese people also like different kinds of food, especially during festivals. what kinds of food will we eat for the Mid-Autumn Festival in China? “Lantern Festival Riddles” is a unique form of traditional activity that Chinese people celebrate during the Mid-Autumn Festival. This activity was also held during this online event. Everyone was having so much fun. When the students discussed the content of the riddles, Chinese teachers also help to explain the meaning behind it so that students can feel the charm of Chinese characters.
