My Huamei Experience
Shared :

by Mc Swain

I have been a Science teacher at HUAMEIInternational Primary school, since August 2021. I would describe my experienceso far, as a whirlwind of emotion, from frustration to euphoria and pure joy,but thankfully it has mostly been the latter. My overall experience at Huameihas been a positive one, the entire staff from the administrative staff to theteachers I work with on daily basis have been so helpful, and at Huamei I getthe feeling that we are one big family, perfectly fitted parts on a well oilmachine working toward one common goal, and that goal is to cultivatetomorrow’s global leaders. The mission and the identity of HuameiInternational are some of the things that really attracted me to the school. How does one go about cultivating world leaders, how do we teach the nextgeneration to be leaders who can solve not only local or regional problems, butfind solutions to global problems?  Howdoes one understand other cultures and understand how other parts of the worldwork, which is needed to solve global problems if they are taught in one systemfor their entire academic lives?  I thinkthat Huamei has truly stumbled upon the correct formula, and it’s reflected inthe slogan of the school, To integrate Eastern and Western educational philosophies, tocultivate tomorrow’s global leaders

Every day at Huamei is a different day, every day has its own challenges and has its own moments of personalfulfillment, while every day is a different experience one thing is alwaysconstant, and that is seeing the growth and progress that the students make ondaily basis witnessing, the “lightbulbs flick on”.  I find it simply remarkable how students areable to surprise you every day, with their trend of thoughts, their ability toexpress themselves, and even their technical ability during science experiments. My students are my greatest source of inspiration, they inspire me to be a better version of myself they inspire me to be a betterteacher, they motivate me to give it my all because they deserve it.  I currently teach grade 1 to grade 3, what a vitalage range that is, their malleable brains absorb so much, behaviors and habitsboth negative and positive are formulated during these precious formativeyears.  I strive to create a classroomenvironment where all my students are excited to have my class. Early educationsets the foundation for their school career and I want to help them develop alove for learning and constructive habits. These young explores and learners need to be nurtured and

prompt students to think creatively andexplore their natural curiosity.

As a science teacher, it's my job to helpthem understand how the world around them works, and encourage them to alwaysask WHY AND HOW, and that the answers to most WHYS AND HOWS are found throughexploring the wonderful world of science. Dr. Maya Angelou once said “peoplewill forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people willnever forget how you made them feel”, and as a teacher, especially on badteaching days I find these words extremely prudent, every kid is different, and every class is different, so even with classes filled up with eagerstudents, consideration must be given to the individuals, little people with their own thoughts, feelings and, needs. Being a teacher at Huamei can bechallenging, but it’s most rewarding, I have learned in the past few months thatthere are few better feelings of pure joy in this world than when you walkthrough the primary school’s hallway in between periods to the sounds of yourstudents all shouting, “Mr.MCS Mr.MCS”.
