Let’s learn and have fun in GIC program
Shared :

All staff and students of GIC program fromGrade 1 to 6 had the first GIC Assembly this week. This is the first studentsmeeting of this semester, which was mainly presented by students from Grade 2and 5. It was really enviable to see the kids harvested both knowledge andhappiness in the integrated innovation project.

Firstly, we saw a group of adorable kidsabout 7 or 8 years old, each of whom held a small fan with a large round faceon it. They appeared in groups without fright to introduce the emotions byusing fluent English sentences. Also, there is weather displayed on the screento represent the corresponding emotion.

This is a topic of the 2nd grade studentsin the integrated innovation project led by Ms Tania. The project was all aboutEMOTIONS, which integrated Language, Science, and Global Perspectives alltogether. Students learned about feelings through books, activities, andprojects in class. They learned to name different emotions and how to expressthese emotions in a good way. Besides words and sentences, colors and weathercan represent different emotions as well.

The children practiced English throughoutthe course so that they could present confidently in front of hundreds ofstudents and teachers. They also prepared quiz questions for students fromother grades. Let’s see who would win the little prize. At the end of theirperformance, a chorus was so successful that everyone present applauded forthem.

The next highlight was the Monster Salebrought by the 5th graders.

People are bound to encounter all kinds ofchallenges and problems in their lives when a hero that can help or save isneeded. Come and have a look at various kind monsters designed by our students!

They created monster models with differentcharacters by using materials such as play dough, carton, straws, cotton balls, clothes and etc. They did their best to design the most popular monsters, herculean or super magical, tiny and cute, huge and ugly, individualistic orteam-working and so on.

The 5th graders had to discuss and notedown the copy writing to set up their monsters’ basic information such asnames, personalities, hight and weight. Also, they learned the persuasivewriting with the OREO structure, which represents Opinion, Reasons, Examplesand Opinion again. The purpose is to persuade as many “customers “ as possibleto buy their monster, that is to say, to gain most votes in the final round.

They had to teamwork to make the monstermodels, design attractive brochuel throughout the project. And of course, theyhad to practice their speech several times so that they could complete thespeech of selling monsters in fluent English.

In the Assembly today, the students proudlyboasted about their monsters to everyone, holding their leaflets. The monstershave different abilities. Some monsters could provide people delicious snacks, convenientstationery or some items they need, acting like a treasure store; Some couldprotect people from bad guys bullying, ejecting Kind Candy which can change thebad guys’ thinking; Some could explain difficulties when people study, actingas a little teacher that can be carried about; Some monsters are able to fly inthe sky in order to do emergency rescue.

Obviously, these children had gained a lot with the help of their teacher, Ms Bsida.Watching their confident presentation, hearing their fluent oral English, wecould see great imagination and creativity from their outstanding speech. Weare curious about how they make it and we could not wait to join the integratedinnovation project.

In fact, the similar learning method hasemerged since 1950s, called project based learning, which is already widelyapplied in primary and secondary schools in the United States. Students areasked to solve a certain problem in real life from early ages, which enablesthem to participate in the learning activities more actively with fun. Theproject improves children’s various abilities, including creativity, practicalability, planning and execution ability, teamwork and leadership, exploration abilityand independent thinking ability, etc. My friends! Welcome to join our GICproject learning, to adapt to the changing future.
