Cooperation between the School and Parents during the Epidemic

A suddenoutbreak of disease has hit the "pause button" in all sectors of theworld, especially in education, more than many had expected. UNESCOannounced on March 18 that more than 860 million children and adolescents, about half of the global student population, have been affected by the COVID 19pandemic. So far, 107 countries have suspended classes nationwide, and12 countries have suspended classes locally.  UNESCO expects that number to grow.

Asteachers, we know that children who are affected by the epidemic willinevitably experience emotional fluctuations -- a great challenge for bothteachers and parents. Therefore, we sincerely hope that every parent cancooperate with the teacher to do a good job in teaching, but also give enoughhelp and support to the children.

  1. Urge children to prepare and review

Preparebefore the class and review after are the most important factors that canaffect the quality of lectures and exam results. According to the learningpyramid, in the first 24 hours, only 5% of what is taught in class will beremembered.  If children do not previewand review, they will forget most of the content after listening to theteacher's online lecture. In the course of home-based online classes, parentsare especially required to make sure their children complete the pre-classpreview and after-class exercises, and submit them in time as required.

  1. Qualityover quantity

Onlinelessons are not the same as studying at school.  The student is relaxed most of the time,  and it is hard to avoid the appearance of a lazy mood.  The parent should give the childencouragement, more praise, arouse their interest to learn, and reviewactively. To determine the learning tasks of each class, go according to theplan, do not over do it, quality always over quantity.

  2. Don’tinterrupt the online class — questions can be asked afterwards

Forchildren, maintaining concentration in class is the premise of ensuring thequality of learning. As parents, please try not to interfere with the class butcreate a quiet learning environment for the children. Parents, reminders mayinterrupt children's thinking and produce negative effects. After class, parents can play back the content of the class, observe the child's learningefficiency, and allow the child to understand your attitude and requirements.

  3. Set a daily schedule for yourfamily

Parents canwork with their children to make a schedule for the family's daily life, toinclude rest, fitness, study, entertainment, etc.  Also, make rules for the use of electronicintellectual products to prevent children from being addicted to the Internet.A daily wish list can be introduced, such as doing crafts, drawing, parent-childgames, indoor sports, making delicious food, taking care of plants, etc., whichcan be completed by the whole family together to spend good parent-child timetogether and make home life healthier and more orderly.

  4. Enhance your child's awareness ofself-protection

Parents canmake use of the anti-epidemic events their children have seen or experienced inthe media to guide them to understand the value of life.  You can build respect and love for life andnature. Parents can guide their children to improve  self-awareness.  Children can increase their ability toprotect themselves and learn to be responsible for their health, safety andlife.

There is noinsurmountable winter, there is no spring that will not come. As parents andteachers, we all have the responsibility and obligation to protect ourchildren's physical and mental health and learning at such a special time. Maywe stay focused until the air is cleared, then sit down, face to face, and tellmore stories about this spring!
