Have you ever met a winter vacation for more than two months? Students will say yes when they’re in 2020.

The outbreak of Novel Corona-virus Pneumonia epidemic stopped the global peoplefrom going out freely. Students can’t return to their normal classes in school ina short time.

After several trials and discussions, our school decided to teach on DingTalk duringthis special period. As most teachers have never taught online, our schooloffered internal training sessions, and we Grade-8 English teaching teamdemonstrated how to use the software one by one internally. Then we practised speaking naturally in front of a camera and using digital pens duringpresentations to mark.

Meanwhile, rules of written comments were listed to students to keep them engaged online. For example, input #6 if you understand;#1 and #2 means there’s no problem to hear;etc. For encouragement, students were divided into groups. And teacher would give points to those who had good performance in class and homework. The groupin high points would be praised and rewarded in the class. In this way, all the students were involved, because if they didn’t get points, their team would fall behind easily. Gradually students listened more and more carefully and followed the teachers much better.

The online class began with the NCP. We learned the vocabulary, reading comprehension about the virus by studying its symptoms, facts and methods about how to prevent. Then we spent several classes on weak parts of students’English learning like words formation, grammar and sentence before starting newunits.

Now everything of our class is going well. Everybody will keep it in mind when we experienced the serious virus, how the whole country conquer the epidemic andhow we’ve learned together in front of difficulties. What a valuable experienceit is!
