Teachers in Huamei Primary School have endeavored to develop the mostsuitable teaching mode for our students. Taking ‘Learning for Practice’ as acore idea, we carry out the ‘practical classroom teaching model’with changes inteaching structure and procedures.This teaching model greatly helps to createan active interaction between teachers and students or students and students, whichresults in a change from teacher-oriented teaching to student-orientedlearning. This kind of learning in the classroom is more profound and valuablebecause students play an active role in absorbing, strengthening and increasingknowledge. For Chinese courses, in order toenhance their comprehensive capability in listening, speaking, reading and writing, we encourage students to readextensively, recite selected works and practice writing; while for Mathematics,teachers focus more on developing students’ interest as well as their logicalthinking. We closely follow the progress of every student and facilitate theirgrowth with love and patience.

Huamei, as aninternational school, offers our students more opportunities to approachauthentic English. With Longman English and Cambridge English introduced to ourprogramme, students are able to enjoy an English proficiency higher than mostaverage Chinese students. Besides the basic academic courses, a great varietyof curricula and extracurricular activities are designed to meet the needs ofstudents who want to expand their interests. Students can choose among theforty courses related to different fields of sports or arts and will be trainedby professional coaches. Activities like these will enable students to have agood chance to progress and develop both physically and mentally.

The American GIAprogram has developed successfully during the last several years and we willcontinue to have GIA classes from Grade one to six in this coming school year.Inthis program, we follow the Chinese curriculum standards for Chinese languageand Mathematics, and lessons are given by our Chinese teachers. As for Americancurriculum, we follow the American primary school curriculum standards. We useAmerican GIA books and have internationally certified teachers as primaryinstructors. Our students study the courses and are tested so that they canreceive American credits.

In the coming newschool year, the German as a Second Foreign Language Program will still be providedfrom Grade four to six, with 1-2 specialized German classes formed in Grade 4and 5 rather than elective course classes as in the previous years. This willsurely help the students learn the German language more effectively andconsistently.

Huamei School embraces difference and diversity. Inaddition to Chinese students, the number of international students, who comefrom more than ten countries and regions, including U.K.,Canada, Indonesia and Korea and etc., has been rising greatly. Special Chinese courses havebeen specifically designed for international students and have proven to be agreat success. This can be tracked through the development of their vocabulary.Their progress in learning and forming good habits after one year of study is reallysurprising. Additionally,international students are soon able to catch up withfellow students and enter into Chinese mainstream classes.
