As the earliest section of Guangzhou Huamei International School, the Primary School reflects our dedication to each child and his/her individuality. Children take English lessons as soon as they step into campus, bilingual education starts from grade 1, and we integrate the English curriculum with Chinese English curriculum, aiming to help construct a solid English foundation.
For children, Huamei is a safe, fun place to learn and grow. At Huamei, they develop a sense of belonging and sharing. They are nurtured in an environment which is warm, cheerful, challenging and respectful. For teachers, it is a place full of energy, and everyone here is able to attain self-satisfaction from work. For parents, it is a place where their children feel safe and secure, a place where communication is valued and guaranteed, and where they are viewed as important and valued partners in the success of their children’s education.
At present, there are over 1000 lovely pupils from China (including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao) and other countries (e.g., Canada, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, etc.) enrolled in classes from grade 1 to 6, studying in 50 classes (including one International Class). Throughout the year, they are taught and well taken care of by 112 homeroom teachers and life assistants; 98.6% of homeroom teachers have received at least bachelor degrees. During the whole week, students have classes in Chinese, English, Math and Science. They are also enriched with classes of Computer, Music, Art, and Oral English taught by International teachers. Reading in the library and P.E class complete week’s lessons.
Curriculum Idea
By absorbing the advantages of Chinese and Western education, Huamei sets up the integral curriculum. On the course of implementation, Huamei uses the IB curriculum for reference, bases upon students’ overall development, lays emphasis on students’ relationship with nature and four seasons, highlights the concept of subject exploring and science exploration, which turn student’s key qualities of cultural base, social involvement and self-development into school-based “Six Knowledge”and “Nine Qualities” , and combine them into teaching practice and various children practical activities. Huamei will achieve the goal of cultivating students’ overall development by student-oriented exploration and collaboration.
Integrated Curriculum
Huamei implements the national curriculum, at the same time, open up the school-based courses integrating international multi-culture.
“Know China” curriculum
Open national curriculum in compulsory education, including the courses of Chinese, Mathematics, Morality and Life (Morality and Society), Science, Information, Music, Art, PE, attaching great importance to cultivate students' basic knowledge and skills, also devoting attention to develop the ability of acceptance learning and learning outcome on the matter of education strategy.
Open school-based curriculum, including the classes of Sinology reading, Calligraphy (Pen-and-ink, and Brush ), Classic Poet Chanting, Pottery, Martial Arts, Table Tennis, Celebration of traditional Chinese festival and so on.
“Know World” curriculum
1. Bilingual STREAMS curriculum
Rooted in oriental culture and absorbing the essence of western thinking, Huamei bases upon students’ all-round development and cultivates their science quality and 5C qualities, which stands for Chinese, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication.
Open bilingual courses (Chinese and English), including Longman English course given by Chinese teacher; Science, PE, and Art courses instructed by international teachers, highlights multi-subject learning, cultivates students’ capacity of self-reliance, collaboration, exploring and creative thinking, also emphasizes “Bilingual Reading, Chinese Classic and Artistic Appreciation” by offering sinology classes to students.
2. Sino-US GIA Bilingual Curriculum
Set up international dual curriculum by offering national curriculum of Chinese, Mathematics and more, and introducing American primary curriculum and following the USA Core Standards. Huamei provides three of American primary core curriculum: language, science, and society. American GIA curriculum are accredited by American MAS and SACS.
3. Hong Kong LWTE English Curriculum
Integrating National English Curriculum Standard issued by Chinese Ministry of Education and Hong Kong primary school English Curriculum Standard, Huamei sets up Longman and oral English classes given by Chinese and international teachers respectively in order to develop students’ comprehensive ability of using English.
4. Pre- (German) DSD Certificate Program
DSD Certificate Program is sponsored by German government, aiming at expanding German language's influence around the globe and promoting the use of German. Huamei is the first school in China to put the German as the second foreign language in the primary school.
The specialized German class is set up from grade 4, and it applies small group teaching and uses the original German textbooks. Excellent Chinese and Germany teachers work in Huamei to give four periods a week. Students can take language classes, at the same time they can attend specialized culture courses to enrich their experience of the diversity of European culture.

Life courses
To adapt the features of boarding school, Huamei offers health education as well as life courses including Etiquette, Tea Art, Cooking and Gardening. Students are taught both living and studying skills.
Over the past 25 years, primary school has achieved great achievement in education management, school characteristics, and education quality, which wins good reputation among students and their parents and is highly recognized by all levels of Education Administrative Departments in Guangdong Province and Education research institutes.
l Strategies of implementing integrated courses
Courses, specialized in students' interests and their relationship with the nature and four seasons, closely follow the nature and four seasons by showing the typical seasonal features around the students (plants, animals and natural phenomena) to trigger learning situation, re-structure the curriculum to pursue the multi-subject learning. It lays emphasis to experiential learning, exploring learning and practical learning, at the same time, deeply integrate the courses of the Character Education, Subject Learning and School-Based Learning to accomplish the vision of the unity of knowledge and practice and learning for application.
l Students grow and develop in healthy and all-around way
Cultivate students' all-around development in their moralities, intellectual ability, physical fitness, aesthetic appreciation and leadership. Closely follow the morality course of "Nature and Four Seasons” and incorporate Chinese traditional twenty-four solar terms to plan moral education courses. Cultivate the global citizens who know China, the world and adapt to the changes in the future.
Huamei provides students with the best living conditions. All dormitories are equipped with air-conditioners. Additionally, Huamei also has professional nutritionists preparing weekly menus for the children, and birthday parties are held monthly. However, students’ physical health is not the only concern; Huamei also has teachers tending to our students’ mental needs.
In the past 25 years, our students participated in different kinds of competitions and won numerous awards:
47 students scored the highest on the Cambridge English Flyers test.
70% to 90% students were rated excellent and good on the Starters test.
In the China Adolescents Science & Technology Innovation Contest, 1 student earned the second prize at the provincial level, 1 student was awarded the first prize at the municipal level, and 2 students won the first prize, 3 students won the second prize and two students won the third prize at the district level.
In 2018, our students won 15 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 9 pupils were awarded bronze medals in Guangdong Province Martial Arts Competition.
In 2018, our school gained the second prize in Guangzhou first private school Chorus Competition, successive to the second prize in Tianhe District.
The boys’ basketball team achieved the championship in 2018 Tianhe District Boy's Basketball Contest, and the girls’ basketball team also made the good performance by ranking the 5th place. The girls’ soccer team obtained the fourth prize in Tianhe District Girl's Soccer Competition.
In Robot Cup 2017 Junior of Guangdong area, 3 teams obtained the first, second, and third prizes respectively
In 2017, Luo Junyu and Chen Junpeng obtained the first prize and Dai Zihao and Mao Jiale won the third prize at Tianhe district in Guangdong Province Robot Creative Design Competition.
The girls’ soccer team won the first and second prizes at the municipal and district level for many times. They won the championship in the campus soccer competition in Tianhe district in November, 2014 and won the eighth prize for the same competition in May, 2015.
The boys’ basketball team also won the first and second prizes for many times. In 2017, the team gained the championship and the girls’ basketball team also made the good performance by ranking the 7th place.
2 students placed 3rd for tennis in Guangzhou, and 4 students placed 1st, 2 placed 2nd , 3 placed 3rd in Tianhe district.
19 students won the first prize, 100students won the second and 26 students won the third prize in the martial arts competition.
7 students won the gold medal, 26 students won the silver medal and 1 student won a prize in the martial arts competition in 2017.
During the Tianhe track meet, 8 students won the championship, 5 students took 2nd place, 4 students took 3rd place, and many other students won awards.
In the National Drawing and Calligraphy Competition for primary and secondary students, 5 students won the first prize, 7 students won the second prize and 10 students won the third prize.
Yang Yingjie won a silver medal in the National Youth Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition in 2014.
In 2015, the Aerobics Team of Primary department won the 2nd prize of cheer-leading action second sets of primary school group A in Guangdong province Aerobics Championship and took the 3rd place of action provisions of primary school group D in the National Cheer-leading League.
In 2017, the Aerobics Team of Primary department won the Grand Prize in National Aerobics Dance Competition-Guang Dong area.
In the Chinese proficiency contest, 6 students got the first prize, 13 students got the second prize and 11 students got the third prize.
In the Hua Luogeng Golden Cup-a mathematics tournament, 2 students won the first prize, 8 students won the second prize and 21 students won the third prize.
More than 70 students were admitted to Guangzhou Olympic School, and 4 students were accepted by Guangdong Olympic School.
In the Guangzhou Primary Students English Proficiency Competition, 10 students won the first prize, 10 students won the second prize and 21 students won the third prize.
In the provincial and national English contests, 10 students won the first prize, 27 students won the second prize and 32 students won the third prize.
In the Tianhe Starry Wisdom Cup–a comprehensive ability competition for sixth grade students held in 2013, 1 student got the second prize, 6 students got the third prize. The award rate of participating students is 87.5% which is far more than 60%, the average award rate of Tianhe district.
In short, the Huamei Primary School is a place of real discovery and exploration. It is also a place where success for one is viewed as success for all.

l KET Certification
In May 2016, the GIA classes from 5th grade took the Cambridge English Examination- Key English Test (KET) . Li Jiayan and Zou Peilin were certificated the excellence level (140-150). Huang Yahan, Lv Jiawen, Su Xin, Chen Zhenghong, Chen Leyi, Li Guoxing, Lin Fanding, Zheng Pengqiaoyin were certificated as the good level, and all the other students passed the test with good results.
Specialized German Class
Since September, 2009, Huamei launched the German as the second foreign language program with the support of German government, which recognizes Huamei as the first school in China to set German as the Pre-DSD program in the primary school, also the first school in Guangdong Province to develop German Certificate Program.

Learn the German as the second foreign language and develop students’ comprehensive language skills, including listening, speaking, reading and writing and help them prepare for the further study at home and abroad
l Recruiting and management
One specialized German class and one elective course class have been set up from the Grade 4. Students who got high scores in English will be selected from grade 4 to be a member of the first German classes, while students with good academic performance in English subject are selected in elective course class.
l Teaching arrangement
The specialized German classes in primary phrase have been adjusted to the model known as 3+1+1, that means 4 periods are scheduled in regular class (1 Practice classes, 3 regular classes ), and 1 period is scheduled in morning exercise. German elective class will arrange 3 periods in one week.

Parents Council
Every class elects one member of Parent Council, whose responsibilities include supporting and participating in school education affairs, offering advice for school development and providing education resources. The cooperation between Parent Council and school will help to extend students' classes to the community, society and greatly improve students' development.
