Huamei School Chinese Culture Summer Camp


--Your pathway to the paradise of Chinese culture!

 

Guangzhou Huamei International School, a leading private boarding school in southern China, is opening her arms to welcome young people from all over the world to experience her wonderful three-week Chinese Culture Summer Camp.

 

I. Context

 

A.  International Class

Began in 2004, Huamei school’s International Class in both primary school and middle school divisions is a one-year bridging program to bring the overseas students Chinese language to the level that enables them to study Chinese courses in mainstream classes with Chinese peers, while maintaining and developing their English language, studying math, choosing talent/interest development programs to take.

 

Currently there are around 200 international students in the school. 50 of them are enjoying their study in the International Class, while the others have been successfully integrated into mainstream Chinese classes. After one year of study in the International Class, the majority have amazingly improved their Chinese skill due to the professional teachers’ instruction and the students’ hard but enjoyable work.

 

B.  Chinese Culture Summer Camp

In the summer of 2005 and 2006, over 240 students from France, America and some other Asian countries spent three weeks of unforgettable time in Huamei Chinese Culture Summer Camp, and there is an increasing number of applicants for 2007’s camp.

 

C.  Chinese Language Education Base of Guangzhou City

In April 2006, our school was awarded “Chinese Language Education Base of Guangzhou City” by the Guangzhou Municipal Overseas Chinese Office, which acknowledges the achievements made by our school in the promotion of Chinese language and culture in the previous years through the above-mentioned programs.

 

II. Design of the Chinese Culture Summer Camp

 

A.     Objectives

By the end of the program, the campers are expected to

1. have a basic understanding about Chinese culture

2. reach a certain level of Chinese language based on each participant’s entry level.

3. establish friendship with other campers.

B.  Resources

1. Up-to-date classroom facilities, e.g., computer and projector, access to internet, and movable furniture, etc.

2. Experienced teachers of teaching Chinese as a second language

3. Teaching assistant in case there are a large number of students from the same country, e.g., French-speaking TA in 2005 and 2006

4. Weekend home-stay families

5. Sightseeing tours and culture-experiencing trips

 

C.  Activities

1. Chinese Language Courses

Language skill is very important for all students who participate in oversea training program. With this in mind, we will offer all foreign students with appropriate Chinese language courses at various levels. In this course, the participants will learn and practice Chinese skills in a small class in an eclectic way of instruction and communication.

2. Culture Experience Activities

In order to immerse students in the true charms of Chinese culture and traditions, the camp will organize a series of activities including city tour, sightseeing, visits to local amusement parks and historical scenes, as well as weekend home-stay opportunities within friendly Chinese families. These activities are both educational and challenging, not only provide natural environment to improve the campers’ Chinese language skills, but enrich their understanding of Chinese culture heritage, traditions, life styles, as well as the modern Chinese society. In the meantime, the campers from different cultural background will develop their friendship, networking and cross-culture understandings. This makes the summer an unforgettable experience of exploration and excitement.

3. Talent Discovery and Development Courses

There are different interesting training courses catering to the needs of the students. We provide courses including Chinese Kongfu (martial arts), table tennis, cooking, and Chinese calligraphy/painting/music/dancing, etc. Talents achieved from these courses will be shown at closing ceremony of the camp.

 

D. Certificate and CD

       At the closing ceremony, a well-designed certificate and a CD shall go to each participant of the Camp, in memory of his/her profitable experience.

III. Admission Information


A. Participants  

All international students, aged between 10-17 years old, with good health and some understanding of English are welcome to participate in our summer camp.  

  

B. Time & Location

The summer camp will be held between the middle of July and early August, in Guangzhou, a famous tourist city located in southern China.

 

C. Price

USD 950 each, including tuition, accommodation and food, textbooks, travel expenses
