Admissions Guide of 2009 Chinese Cultural Summer Camp in Huamei School


To meet the needs of the increasing oversea Chinese off-springs’ returning to Chinese culture and for the western youth who is rich-interested in Chinese culture to experience and practise Profound Chinese culture.Guangzhou Huamei International School, as the “Chinese Culture Education Base in Guangzhou” Specially hold this three-weeks “Huamei Chinese Cultural Summer Camp”.

 

1. Introduction of the Camping Ground

Guangzhou Huamei International School, established in 1993 by a group of returned overseas Chinese scholars, is well-known both in Pearl River Delta and overseas as the first-class private boarding schools in GuangdongProvince. The school lies in the famous historic city of Southern China-Guangzhou. Locating in Kemulang of Tianhe destrict which has beautiful scene and famous as Longlife village, 30 minutes’ drive to downtown, convenient in traffic. The school commits herself to Chinese-foreign communication in education & culture and internationalization of education, it is well equipped with teacher resources and complete in all sorts of soft and hard ware, and has rich experience in successfully holding summer camps, two “Chinese Cultural Summer Camp” were held in 2006 and 2007.

 

Camp Duration:  July 12 -August 1 ( altogether 21 days. 18 days on camp)

 

2. Requirement of the Enrollment:  Youth aged from 7 to 18, whether knowing Chinese or not is ok.

3. Class Setting:  Every class is comprised of 15 students or less. According to the students’ Chinese level, there will be three teaching classes, ranging from rudiment, elementary and intermediate classes.

4. Arrangement of the Course:  With Chinese lesson, Chinese culture lesson and social practice as the main contents of the course. Except the talent class and group activities, the Chinese lesson is no less than 4 periods every day.

Mainly foster students’ interests, provide them with certain Chinese teaching materials and related learning documents which match their level, the teaching is in these forms: dialog lesson, Audio-visual lesson, reading lesson, writing lesson and T’ang Poem, Chinese fables, tongue twister, performance etc.

The target of the course is to teach the students to write and read about 500—1000 characters(if the student has good basis, the target can be more higher) and make progress in Chinese listening , speaking , reading and writing based on their original level through 3-weeks study

In the evening study time, organizing the students to watch Chinese classic youth TV, cartoon TV. We take watching-explaining teaching mode, so to forge their listening and be familiar with common Chinese life scene, her customer and culture.

Chinese Culture

Learning Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, martial art, how to cook Chinese cuisine (such as dumpling, glue pudding). These courses are set up: Chinese feast habitude, Custom of the Minority, art of tea, folk music, lion dancing etc.

Field Practice

1-2 times tours to the scenery that are full of Lingnan characteristics inGuangzhou, such as: ancestral temple of Chen clan, Yuexiu Park, Cultural Pedestrian Mall in Shangxiajiu, tasting the snack in Liwan Square.

Talent & Interest Courses are arranged from 15:30 to 17:30 every afternoon. More than 10 courses can be chosen which are the same with Chinese students( such as: Piano, taekwondo, tennis ball, swimming, dancing, martial art, painting, webpage making, basketball, badminton, football, ping pong etc. you can choose two options), Communicating with the Chinese students.

Chinese –oversea students gathering is held in the form of themed events, with the purpose of making more friends and advancing the friendship.

There will be a show exhibiting the students’ works, a camp-closing report and performance party after the course is over, issuing the certificate to the each member, giving CD in memory, group photos on camp-closing. In the rest days, it may arrange the students to stay in the local hospitable Chinese students families, experiencing the custom of the famous emigration towns and the earliest open area—Guangdong

 

5. Equipment of the Teachers

  • Chinese Lesson: 2 teachers, both of them are the profession teachers for the International Class in Our school and have certain capability to communicate with English and Cantonese. They will respectively teach Chinese lesson, Chinese listening, part of the Chinese Culture lesson. One of them will be the head teacher.
  • Chinese Culture Lesson: 3-5 teachers, respectively teach, painting and calligraphy, etiquette, art of tea, martial art, Chinese cuisine, appreciation of folk music.
  • Talent Lesson: More than 10 talent lessons will be taught by the teachers in our school or recruited professional teachers from outside. Each member can choose according to your interest.
  • Daily-life teacherOne teacher, rich experienced, speaking English or Cantonese to take care of the daily life of each member and communicate with the parent

 

6. Arrangement of Food and Accommodation

l        Diet: Mainly Chinese food, according to the different age, area, different nutrients needs of the member, our school can provide six- time food every day(three main, three supplement),  fully consider the breed, color, fragrant, flavor, to make sure scientific and reasonable match, balanced nutrition. If there is any member who does not agree with Chinese food, we will consider to adjust or add western food.

  • Accommodation: Live in the apartments of the international class students in our school. 2-3 persons/per apartment. Daily life facilities and equipments is provided, clothes are washed by school, unified management.
  • Daily necessities: The school provides each member basic articles for daily use(including: bedclothes, toothpaste, toothbrush, cup, towel, liquid for shower, shampoo, you can also bring these yourself). Two camp clothes are offered for outside activity.

 

7. Full feesRMB 5500 (you can have a discount of RMB100 when registered before 5 July).

The fee includes: tuition fee, teaching material fee, food and accommodation fee, activity fee, school-bus delivery fee, camp clothes fee, souvenir fee.

 

8. Camp Beginning:  12 July 2009 (Sunday), 8:00—11:00 am

 

9. Rest on Weekends and Deliver Issue

Rest days are on 18th , 25th , 26 th July,  the delivery time will be:

  • Going back home at 16:30 on 17th July, and return back at 19:00 on 18th July
  • Going back home at 16:30 on 25th July, and return back at 19:00 on 27th July

There is a venue for school shuttle bus in Guangzhou: East Entrance of Sports Center (opposite to YangchengTrading Building), parents can also pick up and send the students back themselves). One delivery card for one student, it is a must when come to pick up and send the student back, please take care of this card carefully.

 

10.  Staying in Camp and Living in the Host Family

  • It is not allowed to stay in camp on rest days, if you have to, the school charges RMB100/day as the food and accommodation fee. No teaching, the on-camp teachers will be in charge of the students’ study or in-campus activities.
  • If you ask to live in local Chinese host families on weekends, please apply when registering, the school will choose in their students’ families, and charge RMB150/day, food and accommodation is arranged by the host families.

     

11. Sweet Hint

  •  For the sake of safety, please do not let your children wear gold and silver jewelry and other valuable stuffs when on camp(such as: cell phone, camera, tape recorder, game player, CD, translator machine, electronic pet etc) and other dangerous toy. If found, the school has the rights to keep it until the camp is over. There are many IC telephone box, and 200 phone on every floor. In order to facilitate the communication between parents and the students, buying 200 card for your children is suggested.
  •  During the camp, the school will provide sufficient Daily necessities and rich food, please do not give pocket money and snack to your children, if the students need money when outside activities, RMB 50 is at most. In order to ensure the Property security, for the young students, it is better to let the head teacher keep the allowance for them, in case of being lost.
  • The school do not accept any student who has Infectious diseases or other diseases affecting themselves and other students (such as epilepsy, asthma and hepatitis B). Please provide the physical examination result about hepatitis B” two halves” with one year, or do the physical check when registering RMB 40

By bus: take the bus 84A (be bound to Yushantan) at the main gate of zoo , get off at Huamei School Stop.

Self-driving: drive east along Guangshan highway, go forward 3 km after passing South China Botanic Garden, then turn left to Huamei Road. Or drive on South China Express line and get out from Longdong Entrance, then turn left 2 km to Huamei School.
