Through using different forms of media such as current news articles, education can be meaning and ‘real.’ One resource that we have been implementing in grade 5 and 6 is Newsela.com. Mr. Weber our GIA grade 6 teacher turned me on to this resource and it has had a drastic impact on classes.

Siqi Xu our new student that just moved from America said, “The activity with the news articles is fun because we get to write summaries about what we read and play a game where we race to the board with a team.” She also mentioned how she appreciates having more English classes than the other programs and likes her new friends. With regards to writing summaries, she feels it reminds her of writing blog articles like back in the U.S. Below you can read Siqi’s summary about a dog named Rumor who just won the biggest dog show in the world! Rumorthe Westminster Champion

Rumor the award-winning dog show champion, has finally made it to America’s most important dog show, the Westminster Kennel club dog show after a short retirement. She won by a landslide.

In 2016,Rumor was so close! But she was beaten by CJ, a German short haired pointer (Looks like the German dogs are pretty popular in these days!). Before the Judge can even finish his sentence, Rumor’s co-owner stood up, “I have been thinking…” he said. What was supposed to be Rumor’s last major show turned outto be her second-to-last major show before retirement, where she was supposed to be a house pet and have babies.

In January, 2017, Rumor came back from a couch dog to a competitive dog, beating numerous breeds of dogs to the top spot in the Westminster Kennel show, crowned her 104^th victory.

Well,Rumor is much more than a rumor, she is a winner, a champion, a queen.
