l        Background

The GIA program is a twin track program built and operated by Huamei International School and Griggs International Academy. It allows students outside America to receive American Education while still meeting local government educational requirements. The emphasis of this program is on American teaching and classroom management, in which around 45% of instruction will be in English and follow American style, and 55% of instruction will be in Chinese and follow Chinese style. The typical daily schedule includes language arts, science, math and social studies. The courses are designed to meet the needs of the students who want to be functionally bilingual.

l        Components of the Curriculum

(1) Chinese courses

a. Meet Chinese national & local government educational requirements

b. Students attend Chinese and Math tests administered by local education government

(2) American courses

a. Follow American curriculum guide

b. Students have three core subjects introduced from American primary schools: Language Arts (incl. pronunciation, grammar, reading, speaking and spelling), science and social studies, etc.

c. Use authentic American teaching materials.

d. Connected to the ¡°Gifted GIA Program¡± in Huamei middle school.

a. To blend the best of Chinese education and American education, emphasize problem solving, inquiry, cooperation, as well as creative and critical thinking.

c. To have ongoing English assessment implemented by GIA approved teachers.
